Now that you know the right water to rice ratio to prepare white rice, let’s dig into one of the most common cooking methods for rice: on the stove.
The process is rather simple, measure your water, pour it into a pot and bring it to a gentle boil. Reduce the heat and stir in the measured rice. Cover with a lid and simmer for 20 minutes or until all of the liquid is absorbed.
If you don’t have a stovetop available, it can be a lifesaver to learn how to cook white rice in the microwave. Make sure you are using a microwave-safe dish to stir your measured rice and water. Heat at maximum capacity for 5 minutes, then reduce to 50% and heat for 15 more minutes. Let that cool for a minute, fluff with a fork and enjoy!
For best results, do not microwave more than 1 cup of rice per batch.
When cooked, the extra long grains remain loose and separate for a fluffy consistency perfect for any meal of the day!
Try a spiced breakfast rice bowl or Omelets Stuffed with Mexican Rice and sausage. For a tasty lunch, you might like a rice salad, rice bowl or make a filling for a wrap or burrito on the go. Try a tasty stir fry or fried rice dinner, rice pilaf, warm and comforting rice casserole bake, soup or even stuffed vegetables.
Don’t forget about rich and creamy rice desserts like a traditional arroz con leche, or rice pudding!
Tips: Rice is a wonderful ingredient when cooked into a wide variety of recipes, but it can also be a great way to feed the little ones in your family with homemade rice purees using fruits, vegetables and rice. Also, you can follow our guide to make your own homemade rice flour for baked goods!
We also offer Organic White Rice for those choosing to live a more organic lifestyle! And, you might want to try Parboiled Extra Long Grain White Rice, which is rice that has been partially boiled in the husk, making it a slightly more whole grain alternative to traditional White Rice.
White Rice is rice that has the bran and cereal layer removed, while Brown Rice has both of those still intact making it 100% whole grain and giving it a more subtle nutty flavor while White Rice has a more neutral flavor. This is also the reason for the difference in color of these two rice varieties. For more information, see our guide to different rice varieties.
