Also referred to as converted rice, Carolina® Gold Parboiled Rice gets its name from the process of partially boiling the rice in its husk. This process is what gives the rice its signature yellow color and also helps to conserve some of the original whole grains found in rice. Parboiled rice also has a nuttier taste than neutral-flavored white rice.
Our Extra Long Grain Parboiled Rice is Gluten Free, Non-GMO Project Verified, great tasting and suitable for both vegetarian and vegan diets. Try it in any of your next rice dishes.
The ideal ratio for cooking Parboiled Rice is 2¼ cups of water for 1 cup of rice. This rice can be cooked over the stove, in a microwave, Instant Pot or rice cooker.
Flavor Tip: For even more flavor in all of your dishes, cook your rice in water or broth with seasonings, oils or herbs.
As the grains are extra long, they remain more separate and fluffy when cooked, and can be used anywhere that traditional white rice can.
Add a bit more flavor to your next rice salad, rice pilaf or vegetable side dish like a plate of Creamy Rice with Poblano Pepper Strips. It’s also great for using in soups, stuffed peppers or chicken and rice dinners.
Serve it at your next holiday gathering as a side dish like in this Cheesy Green Bean Rice Casserole or a delicious dessert of rice pudding, rice creme caramel or use it to make your own homemade rice flour for baked goods!
We also carry a Medium Grain Parboiled Rice variety which is ideal for making dishes like Authentic Spanish Paella. This is because the shorter grains contain more starch and when released, make the dish a bit creamier naturally without any added cream.
While both White Rice and Parboiled Rice are extra long grain, Parboiled Rice is characterized as being more yellow in color with a stronger flavor than its neutral counterpart. Also, the process of parboiling the rice helps boost the amount of whole grains making it more similar to Brown Rice.
