Rice milk has gained popularity as a versatile dairy alternative, appealing to people with various dietary restrictions. Here are some of its main benefits:

  • Suitable for people intolerant to lactose
  • Gluten-free
  • Lower fat content compared to cow’s milk
  • Naturally sweet in flavor
  • Mild and light
  • Easy to digest

Making Homemade Rice Milk –  What You Need

One of the many pros of consuming rice milk is that it’s so easy to make at home. All you need is rice, water, a blender, a strainer or nut cloth, and a pitcher to serve it from.

  • Step 1: Add ¾ cup of uncooked rice to hot water and leave it to soak it for 2 hours.
  • Step 2: After 2 hours, the rice should have softened but should remain firm on the inside.
  • Step 3: Drain the rice using a fine strainer or nut milk cloth and add to high-speed blender.
  • Step 4: Add 4 cups of water to the blender and tightly close the lid.
  • Step 5: Blend until no lumps or particles appear then strain again and add it to a pitcher.
  • Step 6: Put it in the fridge to cool and consume within 3 days.
  • Chef’s tip: If you like your rice milk to be sweet, add fruits such as dates, raisins, or coconut to the mix.

Which Rice Variety to Use

The type of rice chosen has a significant impact on the final product. Different varieties offer unique textures and taste profiles.
